Baseball Stirrups

How To Buy Basebal Stirrups
It’s 2011 and Baseball Teams are going high tech with their Uniforms buying the moisture wicking fabrics and heat gear, but many are also throwing in some old school style by wearing baseball stirrups. Buying stirrups seams tricky but let me walk you through the decisions that need to be made to buy them.
First pick the design that you want. Stirrups come in varied designs: Solid, Triple Stripe, Northwestern, Packer Pattern, Ranger, Featheredge, Red Sox, and Ivy league. The most popular out of these designs are Triple Stripe, Northwestern, and Featheredge, pick whatever you think looks good and they all do once they’re put on. You will want to think about your team colors and how you want to match them up. For instance the featheredge has 3 colors: the body color, the stripe color, and the outer featheredge stripe color.
Next pick the size that you need. They are available in 100 youth, 200 pony, 300 and 700 adult. The youth would be for ages 6 to 10, the pony of ages 11-14, and adult for ages 15 and up. These are approximate ages as player size can vary. If you want to get an idea of how they fit all you need is a ruler/yard stick. The 100 Youth size measures 14″ long, the 200 Pony measures 17″ long and the 300 and 700 Adult measure 19″ long. Just stand a ruler or yard stick vertically near the bottom of your foot (this is where the stirrup will sit and measure the 14″, 17″, or 19″ to see where the top of the stirrups end up on the leg. You have 2 choices in the adult stirrups, the 300 is a 3 ply and the 700 is a 4 ply which just means that the 700 has an extra layer of material making it more durable.
After picking the size you need you need to decide on the CUT, the cut is the length of the actual stirrup or the thin band of sock at the bottom. These cuts are 4″, 5″, 7″, 9″, 12″ and 15″. Depending on the size you are purchasing. What you need to think about is how much of the sanitary sock you want showing under the stirrups. If you want a lot to show then you would go with the 15″ cut, if nothing much at all then the 4″ cut would be your choice. The 9″ cut was the old standard for baseball but today the 4″ cut is in favor.
Last step is, you will need to buy some sanitary socks. Sanitary socks are made to go under the stirrups as the stirrups do not have a foot on them and you don’t want your bear skin showing. Sanitary socks are usually white, but you can pick out a wide range of colors to make your Uniform colors pop.
As you can see picking out stirrups isn’t really that hard. The hardest thing is probably picking the design and the color scheme from the thousands of combinations. Stirrups are custom made and can take up to 4-6 weeks to make, depending on the time of year, so you will want to make sure you get your order in early.
