Backyard Baseball

What are some good backyard baseball drills?
With some detail. Lots of them too.
I’m still undecided on what position I should play I’m thinking 2nd, 1st or LF. Do you know any good hitting drills and thanks for all the great info!!
Well it depends what position you play so I will just cover them all.
If you are a pitcher you should always spend time going through your mechanics. Mechanics are so important. Proper mechanics help you throw harder, throw strikes and keep you from getting surgery (I know from experience.) Go through your windup over and over again. You can work on your balance point by putting your foot on a bucket and lifting you leg up. Towl drill is a good way to work on getting extended and finsihing. You can work on your foot work with pick offs. Picks to first, second… jump turn and inside move. when you get in a game all these things will be second nature to you. When you pitch you dont want to think or you will make a bad through. It should be natural cause you practice it.
Do flat grounds (pitching on flat ground.. not on a mound) work on your change ups and breaking pitches. Its easier on your arm and you dont need a catcher.. anyone can catch a flat ground because you are not throwing all out.
If you are an infielder work on short hops… getting down on the ball and staying in front. YOu wont make errors this way. Work on slow rollers, back hands, and balls to your glove side. First basemen can work on picks
Outifelder.. work on charging up on a ball and coming up and throwing using a crow hop. (you dont actually have to throw the ball just work on your foot work) Work on drop steps to your left and right as if you were going back on a ball. Have someone point in a direction and you drop step that way.
Catchers can work on framing the baseball. Have someone stand in front of you like they are pitching and catch the ball and frame it. Pitchers will get a lot more stikes called if they have a catcher who can frame the ball well.
Blocking can be worked on anywhere. make sure you get your head up and chest up. Take the ball off the chest. Thats where your padding is.
Work on your foot work like you are going to do a throw to second (as if a guy is stealing a base)
Baseball is a game of footwork. The more you work on these things the easier it will come during a game.
Good luck. hope this helps
